Bay Film Series Announces Partial Winter 2018 Schedule
It’s time once again to CELEBRATE THE OSCARS! The Bay Film Series always shows the best in international, documentary, independent and local film. Last year, we had an incredible roster of award-winning, critically-acclaimed, audience-applauded movies.
This year, our hope is to repeat that success. “But the film industry is different this year,” says Film Series coordinator Nanci Love. “Scandals in the industry have knocked some of the expected titles out of contention. Plus, video streaming has affected the availability of documentaries and many international titles.”
“Last year, we had a number of clear ‘front runners’ for the Oscar race, but this year is still very much up in the air, with a score of movies being mentioned in ‘Oscar buzz.’ A number of studios are holding back availability till they know which are appearing on nomination lists.”
Thus, only two films are scheduled so far.
On February 22nd, LADY BIRD will be shown, lauded by Newsday as “One of the best movies about adolescence to come along in years.” Fronted by two accomplished indie actresses – Laurie Metcalf and Saoirse Ronan -- this film is acclaimed by critics and viewers alike. “Reelviews’ James Bernardinelli says, “Highlighted by an awards-worthy performance by Saoirse Ronan and structured around a light, witty script by Gerwig, the movie delivers a well-targeted snapshot of a year-in-the-life of an ordinary high school senior.”
Film Series titles for March and April will be announced soon.
All Film Series movies are shown in the Besse Center Theater at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the box office or can be purchased online.
