Strings On The Bay: The Return of Stas Venglevski

Strings on the Bay, an annual summer chamber music series at Bay de Noc Community College, begins 7:30 PM June 26th at the Besse Center Theater. This performance is the first of three concerts this summer and features an audience favorite. Stas Venglevski returns by popular demand to wow the audience with his incredible skill on the accordion. Joining him will be hammer dulcimer player, Tatyana Krasnobayeva. What a treat it will be to hear this rare instrument performed. The program will feature an eclectic blend of classical, popular and folk music.

Tatyana Krasnobayeva was born in Minsk, Belarus in 1980.  Her studies included the State Academy of Music, the Belarusian State Academy of Music, and later she was awarded the diploma of 1st degree in Kishinev, Moldova.  Her beautiful instrument, the cimbalom (dulcimer) dates back to the 16th century in Belarus and is famous for its unique silvery timbre, making it universal for playing any music genre from Bach and Vivaldi to folk and contemporary music. Today it is often used in Belarusian pop and folk music, as well as symphonic orchestras. The art of performance in modern Belarus passes from generation to generation.

Stanislav "Stas," Venglevski, is a native of the Republic of Moldova, part of the former Soviet Union. A two-time first prize winner of Bayan competition in the Republic of Moldova, Stas is a graduate of the Russian Academy of Music in Moscow where he received his Master's Degree in Music. In 1992 he immigrated to the United States. Stas is an Accordionist,  arranger,  entertainer, and teacher. Stas' repertoire includes his original compositions, a broad range of classical, contemporary and ethnic music. He has toured extensively as a soloist throughout the former Soviet Union, Canada, Europe, and the United States, including numerous performances with Doc Severinsen, Steve Allen and with Garrison Keillor on the Prairie Home Companion Show. Additionally, he has performed with symphony orchestras throughout the United States.

Tickets are available through the Bay website, the Besse box office or at the door of the church. Admission price is $5 for students and faculty, $10 for adults. Remaining programs in the series are on July 17th and August 7th at the Besse Center Theater.
