Bay Film Series Announces Winter 2019 Schedule
Our RACE TO THE OSCARS continues! The Bay Film Series at Bay College once again celebrates the art of film-making, showing the best in international, documentary, independent cinema. This year’s roster is filled with award-winning, critically-acclaimed, audience-approved movies. The Academy of Motion Pictures will announce their nominations on January 22nd.
Our second film on February 14th, The Green Book is already winning awards, including Golden Globes for Best Screenplay, Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Actor (Marhershala Ali), and Best Director. Based upon the memoirs of Tony Lip, the movie tells the story of Dr. Don Shirley, an internationally acclaimed African-American pianist, who goes on a concert tour in the Jim Crow South. He hires the Italian-American Lip, played by Viggo Mortensen, as his driver and companion, and the two men must work together to survive the dangerous racism of the time.
All Film Series movies are shown in Bay College’s Besse Center Theater at 7 p.m. in Escanaba. Tickets are $4 and are available at the box office or can be purchased online.
